Our mission
Our mission
Our mission at WWF Cymru is to nurture partnerships that equip and inspire people, communities and other leaders in the co-creation of transformational and just solutions that tackle the climate crisis and restore nature.
We are a small team working hybrid with an office in Cardiff. We work across Wales on campaigns and projects, often in partnership with local and national organisations. Here are some of the campaigns we're currently working on.
Land Use
Land Use
In Wales, none of our natural ecosystems – from coasts to mountains – are considered healthy enough to face threats such as climate change.
Farming is at the heart of how we use land in Wales - almost 90% is farmland.
So supporting farmers to adopt climate and nature friendly practices is crucial to securing our future and our ability to produce food.
The Agriculture (Wales) Act and the related Sustainable Farming Scheme have the potential to offer a new system of agricultural payments which have agroecology at its core; improving food and farming systems, supporting regenerative farming, and putting people - farmers, food producers and citizens – at the heart of solutions.
Welsh seas
Welsh seas
Welsh seas make up 43% of Wales and are home to an abundance of important marine life, but our seas are under threat from pollution, unsustainable human activity and climate change and we need to act now.
We’re working with partners in Wales on some of the solutions to see the benefit for nature and people.
Nature
Nature
Our most recent report on the State of Nature in Wales shows that we are one of the most nature-depleted countries on the planet. But it also shows that action for climate change can make a real difference.
There are decades of successful conservation practice to draw upon, and for many habitats and species there is detailed evidence of which actions work. However, the science shows that nature conservation action alone is not enough to halt and reverse the loss of nature. This is why we all need to work together, including politicians, organisations and the people of Wales to tackle the nature crisis for future generations.
