57.6K voices call on political leaders to stop the destruction of nature

Accurate at time of publication: 9 September 2024

The issue

Our world is in crisis. We're losing precious wildlife as their homes are destroyed.

The average size of wildlife populations has fallen by a staggering 73% since 1970, and we're running out of time to make a difference for future generations.

Nature is our best ally in the fight against climate change, helping us to be more resilient to extreme weather events. Our global economy also relies on nature – without nature we have no supply chains, no products – and no food.

The Solution

Increasingly, people, communities and organisations are uniting to halt the loss of habitats and restore our natural world. Now is the time for our politicians to act too.

We launched this petition with the aim of demonstrating the strength of support for action on nature and climate from the new UK government, and to encourage all political parties to make stronger commitments for nature.

“The UK is a nation of people who care deeply about nature, who want to protect wildlife and stop climate change in its tracks, who understand that when we restore nature, nature restores us. I’ve been so inspired & energised by talking to and meeting so many incredible people who are taking action in their communities, and doing what they can to make a difference. Now we need our leaders to show that same commitment. We need our leaders to step up and take vital action to stop the destruction of nature, our precious wildlife and in turn ourselves.”

The result

Thank you for your support!

57,685 people signed our petition to make their voices heard. We handed this petition into all major political party headquarters to prove that the public want real action from the new government, and all political leaders, to stop the destruction of nature.

We'll continue our work advocating with the UK government and other political parties to take crucial action on nature.
