WWF reacts to Kemi Badenoch’s net-zero announcement

Isabella O’Dowd, WWF’s head of climate policy said: “Kemi Badenoch is ignoring the evidence: the net-zero sector is growing three times faster than the overall UK economy. The UK is a world leader in rolling out renewable energy and in sustainable finance and businesses recognise that decarbonising our economy is the biggest business opportunity of the century.

“Her roll back would undermine the UK’s energy security, slow down investment in the UK economy, increase costs to the NHS and leave our energy bills at the mercy of volatile international gas prices. It will blow household budgets, the UK’s energy security and leave families at risk of imported gas inflating their energy bills and blowing their household budgets.

“Stepping back from climate action would be an out of touch move that would harm our families, our economy and our planet.”
