WWF Comment on Water (Special Measures) Bill

Commenting on the Water (Special Measures) Bill, David Walsh, head of public affairs at WWF said:

"Greater support for regulation and enforcement is crucial for cleaning up our rivers. Accountability on pollution is key, and will be essential for turning things around for the UK's environment. This Bill rightly begins the vital work of creating a culture of compliance and accountability in water companies, Ofwat, the Environment Agency and Natural Resources Wales.

"However, while this Bill is welcome, it's just the first step, and we must now see further, meaningful and joined up action on accountability for agricultural pollution which is the leading driver of pollution in the UK’s rivers."
