WWF comment on Chancellor's first speech
Commenting on The Rt Hon Rachel Reeves MP first speech as Chancellor of the Exchequer, David Walsh, Head of Public Affairs, WWF said:
"Cheap, clean British energy means lower energy bills and higher growth, so we welcome the Chancellor’s plan to lift the ban on onshore wind in England. Net zero is the economic opportunity of the 21st Century; seizing it can help spread wealth and opportunity to all nations and regions of the UK."
The UK Government should deliver on their commitment to a net zero and nature test in the first Budget and Spending Review of this Parliament to ensure that investment is laser-focused on unlocking clean growth and stopping climate change and nature loss destabilising the economy. This would be a clear signal of intent and give the certainty businesses are crying out for. "
