Television presenter Patrick Aryee brings decade of wildlife filmmaking to new role as WWF Ambassador

1 March 2021 – Environmental organisation WWF (Worldwide Fund for Nature) has today appointed Patrick Aryee to its Council of Ambassadors. As well as his inquisitive scientific mind and an infectious passion for the natural world, Patrick brings to WWF over 10 years’ experience of wildlife filmmaking, and with it, an ability to create engaging stories that showcase the wonder of nature as well as the threats it faces.

As an Ambassador, Patrick will bring his professional experience and a fresh perspective to support WWF in creating new and compelling content, helping the organisation to tell vital stories about wildlife, landscapes and people. Patrick shares with WWF a core belief that by exploring the challenges faced by people and species, we can shine a spotlight on wider environmental issues affecting the whole planet, from deforestation and water scarcity to climate change.

Describing why he chose to join WWF, Patrick said: “I’ve always been fascinated by the way that our planet’s ecosystems work in such perfect harmony. I was inspired by nature documentaries as a child growing up, and today, it’s this same inspiration that drives me to surprise and delight viewers from the comfort of their own homes. What drew me to work with WWF more closely is their commitment to building a future where people live in harmony with nature. As an Ambassador, I hope to shed more light on the critical issues facing the planet and humanity today. Working to include the richness of diverse voices within that storytelling will be key to our success.”

On announcing Patrick as a new WWF Ambassador, Karen Bearman, Head of Ambassadors and Fellows said: “We’re delighted that Patrick will be joining our Council of Ambassadors. Patrick’s science-focused passion for storytelling about the natural world is a perfect match with WWF’s own ambitions, and we’re excited to learn from his experience and collaborate on new creative projects, working towards our shared goals. By sharing intriguing stories about nature and the actions we can take to look after it, we can inspire more people to come together to protect our one shared home.”

NOTES TO EDITORS

More about Patrick Aryee

Internationally recognised wildlife television presenter and documentary filmmaker Patrick Aryee, a Brit of Ghanaian heritage, is also somewhat of a self-confessed thrill seeker. He has spent over a decade working with major broadcasters to bring us face-to-face with some of the wildest and most awe-inspiring animals on the planet. His adventures around the world have revealed some truly spectacular encounters; from witnessing the raw power of big cat predators, to exploring the incredible ‘super senses’ of night-time hunters, and even swimming alongside mysterious giants that call our oceans home. The next decade of work for Patrick will see him building and collaborating on new partnerships to use technology including social media, AR/VR, and other emerging spaces, to bridge the gap between us and the natural world.

About WWF

WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) is one of the world’s largest independent conservation organisations, active in nearly 100 countries. Our supporters – more than five million of them – are helping us to restore nature and to tackle the main causes of nature’s decline, particularly the food system and climate change. We’re fighting to ensure a world with thriving habitats and species and to change hearts and minds so it becomes unacceptable to overuse our planet’s resources.

WWF. For your world.

For wildlife, for people, for nature.
