Why we need a Net Zero Delivery Tracker
Why we need a Net Zero Delivery Tracker
The impacts of the climate emergency are being felt closer to home than ever before. Catastrophic flooding incidents in the UK and wildfires in Europe are becoming more frequent, while the cost of importing expensive, fossil fuels has left households facing unaffordable energy bills.
Tackling the climate emergency, however, is also the biggest economic opportunity of the 21st century. By acting early and decisively, the government can ensure that the UK leads the global race to net zero and deliver high-skilled jobs and robust growth across the country.
In this context, WWF-UK is calling on the UK government to apply a Net Zero Delivery Tracker to all spending and taxation decisions in fiscal events (Budgets, Statements and Spending Reviews) to ensure that the overall package puts us on track to meet our climate and nature goals.
In a major breakthrough, WWF-UK have created a full Net Zero Delivery Tracker framework and applied it to three UK fiscal events. The reports below outline what the Net Zero Delivery Tracker is, why we need it, and analyse how far each fiscal event helps get the UK on track for net zero.
It demonstrates how the Net Zero Delivery Tracker can help ensure that government spending protects the planet and builds a green economy, delivering high-quality jobs and shared prosperity.

The world needs to decarbonise to tackle climate change - but making these changes will deliver real local benefits too. These briefings outline how the net zero can deliver tangible economic benefits for different areas of the country including job creation, improved local infrastructure and faster economic growth.
To unlock the private investment to deliver these benefits, Government needs to introduce a Net Zero Delivery Tracker to ensure that spending and tax decisions are supporting the net zero transition and sending the right signals to business.
