Twister dough over a fire

Campfire cooking

twister dough

We think food tastes better outdoors! Try baking these breadsticks over a campfire

You will need

  • 1 tsp dried yeast
  • 300g flour
  • 200ml warm water
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Step one

Ask an adult to help!
Wash your hands, grab a large bowl and mix all the ingredients into a moist dough.

Step two

Cover the bowl and put it in a warm place to allow the dough to rise to about double the size. This usually takes about an hour.

Step three

While you wait, find, clean and dry your ‘cooking sticks’. Freshly cut sticks that are long enough to hold comfortably over the fire are best.

Step four

When the fire is ready, with lots of hot embers to cook on, tip the dough out onto a surface covered in flour and divide into six to eight equal pieces.

Step five

Roll each piece into a long ‘worm’. Then twist the dough around your cooking stick, pinching the ends together to secure it.

Step six

To cook, either hold or prop your stick over the hot embers. Don’t forget to rotate the stick to cook the dough all around. Let them cool down a bit before you eat them!

Top tip

Pair your twister dough with our spicy beans recipe. You can eat them straight from the pan using your twisters. It’ll be super-hot, but delicious!
